About me

I have been teaching for over 30 years both in schools and privately at home from my exclusive piano room. My school experience includes primary class teaching and specialist music teaching across the entire primary age range, whilst my private teaching has included pupils aged from 4-80!

I believe one is never too old or experienced to learn new things. Since gaining my teaching degree (B.Ed.Hons) I have also acquired a Diploma in Piano Performance (Dip ABRSM) and a Distinction in the Certificate of Practical Piano Teaching (Epta PPTC).

I have studied with a number of highly regarded and experienced piano teachers, including Lucinda Mackworth-Young Lucinda Mackworth-Young who runs the UK EPTA Piano teachers course. I was recently asked to take on the role of an internal assessor on this course, but unfortunately have not been able to take this up due to my relocation but hope the opportunity will arise in the future.

More recently I have studied with Beate Toko-Wilmshurst, a performer and teacher who specialises in the teaching of Suzuki piano. This has given me a fresh perpective on both teaching and playing using the Suzuki technique.

I am an active member of the Piano Teaching Association (EPTA) and attend local professional development wherever possible. I am also a member of an innovative international online community of piano teachers, (The Curious Piano Teachers) where I receive professional development on a monthly basis and have the opportunity to discuss, reflect and share with other teachers worldwide.

All of these help to keep my teaching and playing fresh, up to date and dynamic.
